New training initiative

In 2018 FIRE piloted Diversity Fellowships to cover attendance at IRE Watchdog Workshops and other IRE trainings. The fellowships served US-based journalists of color working as freelance investigative reporters or planning to do so in the future. The fellowship waived the workshop registration fee, provided an IRE membership or renewal, and covered up to $1,000 in travel, accommodations, along with a per diem. 

IRE Watchdog Workshops cover a range of investigative topics—from use of public records, to interviewing and sourcing techniques, with optional half-day spreadsheet trainings available in some locations. We hope to offer another round of FIRE Diversity Fellowships soon.
