The pilot FIRE Guide to Freelancer Protection uses a color range—“Green” (model practice) to “Red” (warning)—to indicate whether a media outlet promises to protect freelancers against defamation lawsuits. The pilot Guide includes evaluations of 20 major publishers and broadcasters. We publicly share only those that FIRE has “cleared,” or given a chance at fair comment. Anyone can request the color ratings of the outlets via the form below (FIRE keeps this data strictly confidential and uses it only to respond to this request, unless you permit an additional use in writing).
